My work is rooted in love. A love for whimsy, a love for the corners, round and sharp, of the lives we are living, a love for the way we entered and the ways we leave. Love allows for me to move with grace, with empathy, with a softness that allows me to listen and hear what’ is going on in a space. Love for the richness of the people I have grown of. Love for the discovery that comes when we have difficult conversations. Love for what can be.
Wisdom is internal, it is in our bones and our tissue, the ways our hands know how to do, before we know our minds do. Wisdom is external, honoring wisdom from my well ancestors, wisdom from my mentors on this earth, wisdom from the people who i have had a chance to be with on during their dying process, wisdom from the plants and animals, wisdom from the stars, the winds and the rains.
Knowledge and the limits of my knowledge allow me to safely, legally and ethically care for people. The understanding that knowledge doesn't have an end point. Replying on community members to give and receive knowledge for the benefit of us all as a people. Knowledge allows for an understanding of the necessity of truth, the stories of the past and sharing of the truths. As practitioners, we have to continuously deepen our knowledge by growing our skills, education, experience and understanding of what it is to care for.
With Natural Law
Natural law and science guide the logical and more practical ways that I engage in care. The universe, this planet, the elements and energies that us. It’s irresponsible for me to practice care for individuals and not only acknowledge, but actively work against laws, written and unwritten, that are systematically rooted in racist ideology.
My work is steadied by a grounded strength. Strength built on from the principles above. The ability to hold space, conversation, the line, the ability to tell the truth, a request are all rooted in a delicate understanding of strength. My understanding of strength is that it is porous, it is not impenetrable, it listens and grows when supported by and with community.
